An Introduction to Massage Candles

I realised yesterday that a few months ago I asked all of you who play along on my Instagram if they had ever tried a massage candle, and I never followed it up (I'm still working on my consistency)! The results were that the majority of you hadn't tried one, nor heard of them before.

So what are they? Basically they're regular candles with body safe waxes that only ever get warmed to a particular temperature so you can then use the melted oil as a warmed up massage oil. The Basic B in me already loves candles, so imagine my delight when I get a candle that has uses other than mood lighting and making your house smell nice.

Massage candles can be enjoyed solo for self-massage, as well as by couples who are into sensual intimacy and kink players alike.

Below are three of my favourite massage candles, each from a different price range!

This beauty was my first introduction to massage candles. At the moment, they get sent out in The Introduction Box from The Fantasy Box, and that's how I got my hands on one. Never having used one, I was eager to try it out - and when we did, I became an instant addict. The Forbidden Fruit is my favourite scent from their offering with its fruity, floral and musk notes.

The jar has a matte finish and comes with a little stick of chalk, in case you want to write a sweet or dirty note to your lover (or yourself). The pour spout is a great detail that makes pouring the warm oil directly onto skin a seamless experience.

Some of the skin friendly ingredients include; coconut oil, soybean oil (this is soy wax), apricot kernel oil, shea butter and jojoba seed oil. All of these oils are extremely good for the skin, with the exception of coconut oil being a little higher on the comedogenic scale than the others, meaning just don't put it on your face if you are prone to breakouts.

I accidentally smooshed the packaging :/

I loooove everything this brand does, from their packaging to their deliciously scented products. They just know how to do sensual. This candle wax is poured directly into the tin, making it a no fuss and no waste purchase. I tend to keep any pretty candle jars and tins and use them for storing things, or I remake them into candles again.

My go-to scent for these Shunga Candles is the Sparkling Strawberry Wine, and they definitely do not hold back on fragrance! This will usually fill a room with delicious strawberry scent in about 5 minutes flat, and it smells sexy. The oil itself is extremely silky and my skin tends to drink it up happily. And once the oil is on the skin, the scent dissipates a little so it's never overpowering.

The skin friendly oils in this candle include; soybean oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, seasame oil, and grape seed oil. Your skin will love it!

Coco de Mer in Enraptured Figment - about $41

So I had already started writing this post, and when trying to find a link to this candle, found out that it may not be available anymore. I'm so, so sorry - because this is one awesome candle. I do know however, that this candle comes in the Platinum Queen For A Day Fantasy Box, so if you're interested in both that date night (which includes the Womanizer Starlet too!!!) AND this fabulous candle, you may want to be quick before they are gone for good :(

I try to tone my love of bougie things that I can't afford right down, but there are some things that I can't help splashing out on. This is to date, my favourite scented candle ever. I have this compulsion where if I am faced with a row of pretty candles on a shelf at a store - I absolutely have to smell each and every one of them. I can't leave any out. It drives my husband mad because who really has time for that?

The notes of the fragrance are primarily fig and orange blossom which comes out as smelling beautifully delicate and a little spicy. The oil itself is nice and hydrating, and it comes with the cutest little glass spoon to help scoop the liquid out of the jar.

If you're someone who is a stickler for "less is more" when it comes to ingredients - it only contains 6 in total and is paraben free.

The total ingredient list is: shea butter, sweet almond oil, parfum, coumarin (I believe this provides part of the scent), benzyl benzoate, and linalool (a terpene that provides scent).

Cutest little glass spoon ever!

As a caution, you will always want to make sure that you read the instructions carefully, as they differ from candle to candle. You must blow the candle out before pouring out the wax regardless of brand, and never leave a candle burning unattended. The same goes for checking the ingredients list to make sure there is nothing you may be allergic to.

If you're interested in trying any of these candles, I have provided links above, and if you're going via TFB, use my code (CELESTE10) for a 10% discount :)

On that note, I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has been using my code - I still get genuinely shocked and excited every time I see a new order come through with my discount applied! It's those little things that make me want to persist with writing about the things I love and sharing them with you all.
